Cormac Cullinan, of Cape Town, South Africa, author of Wild Law: A Manifesto for Earth Justice. A leader in the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature, he also drafted the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth.

Cormac Cullinan is a practicing environmental lawyer based in Cape Town, South Africa who is best known for his work in pioneering a legal philosophy that advocates that the earth should be afforded rights. He is also the author of the 2002 book Wild Law: A Manifesto for Earth Justice that calls for what Cullinan describes as earth jurisprudence, which proposes recognizing natural communities and ecosystems as legal persons with legal rights, changing our relationship with the natural world from one of exploitation to a more democratic participation in a community of all life.
